Terms of Service
By using Stoa you agree to the following. We will update these terms with reasonable notice as the product grows.
What this is
Stoa provides conversational personas of historical figures, built on top of large language models. The persona is a literary construction, not the actual person. Its answers are informational and not professional advice (legal, medical, financial, or otherwise).
Your account
You are responsible for the security of your account and the accuracy of the information you provide. You must be at least 16 years old (or the legal age of digital consent in your country).
Billing
Stoa uses a prepaid balance model. There is no subscription and your card is never charged automatically.
- New accounts start with a small amount of free credit (currently $0.10, enough for roughly one conversation turn at standard quality).
- When you want more, you top up your balance with a one-time payment of $5, $10, or $20. The balance does not expire.
- Each conversation turn deducts its cost from your balance. Standard quality (Sonnet) is roughly $0.04 per turn. Premium quality (Opus) is roughly $0.30 per turn. Exact prices vary slightly with the length of your message and the persona's reply.
- When your balance is too low to cover the next turn, the persona pauses and you can top up to continue, or simply stop.
There is no "cancel" step because there is nothing to cancel. If you stop topping up, no further charges happen.
Refunds
Conversation turns already taken are non-refundable. Unspent balance can be refunded on request within 30 days of the original top-up, minus any processing fees Stripe charges us. Email hi@thelifeofpiet.com with your account email and the top-up date.
One-time skill downloads
Personas can also be purchased as one-time downloadable skills (see the persona detail pages and the marketplace). These purchases are separate from the prepaid chat balance described above.
- One-time payment, no subscription, no recurring charge. You receive an email with a 24-hour signed download link.
- Each download is licensed for personal use on your own devices and in your own LLM accounts.
- Once the download link has been issued, the purchase is non-refundable. If the link expires before you have downloaded the file, email us and we will reissue one.
- Classroom, departmental, or institutional use requires a separate licence agreed via personas.thelifeofpiet.com/custom.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to harass, deceive, or harm others, to generate content that violates the law where you are, or to attempt to extract operational details of our systems.
No warranty
The persona's answers may be incomplete or wrong. We provide the service as-is, without warranties, and our liability is limited to the amount you have paid in the last 12 months.
